Healthy, vibrant skin in the face is important. In fact, billions of dollars are spent each year on facial procedures, ointments and other rejuvenating products. One of the most popular and effective procedures is the chemical peel, which gives your skin the opportunity for a fresh start. At the Lasky Aesthetics & Laser Center, we offer a variety of chemical peels to cater to all skin types and blemishes. Even if your skin is blemish-free, a peel can help refresh your skin’s naturally radiant appearance.
Chemical peels are a rapid, easy way for patients to regenerate a healthy layer of skin on their face. They work by gently removing the outer layers of the skin, along with any blemishes that exist in those outer layers, such as skin pigmentation or fine lines. At the Lasky Aesthetics & Laser Center, each procedure is delivered with your individual needs in mind, allowing us to custom tailor your chemical peel for best results.
Chemical peels use a chemical solution that is applied to the face. This chemical solution works to remove the damaged layers of skin. After only several minutes, the solution is removed. Over the next several days, the damaged layers of skin will shed, while new layers underneath begin to grow. Overall, chemical peels bring a healthy glow to the skin while reducing the appearance of blemishes.
While chemical peels are usually done to the face, they can also improve skin on the neck and hands.
Chemical peels can treat the following conditions:
Chemical peels come in different grades: light, medium and deep. By reaching only the outermost layers of the skin, a light peel is pain free and requires no downtime. As one moves toward deeper peels, they may see slight discomfort and longer recovery. However, the deeper peels will give the most dramatic result. As the first step in a chemical peel, we will determine which peel is right for you. From there, treatment can begin.
After a thorough cleaning, the appropriate chemical solution is gently applied to your face. After only a few minutes, the solution is removed and neutralized so no further chemical effects occur. After the procedure, you may feel some slight stinging and irritation, but you should be able to resume your daily activities immediately.
After your face is thoroughly cleaned, the chemical solution is applied. After several minutes, it is removed and neutralized. There will be a slight burning sensation. The area treated may become a whitish gray. This is completely normal. Over the next several days, the skin will turn red or brown, which shows that the peel is doing exactly what it should. For best results, we recommend repeating a chemical peel every several months.
Because a deep peel can cause some discomfort, the first step is local anesthetic to numb the area. Once the anesthetic has set in, the area is cleaned and the chemical solution is applied. After several minutes, the chemical is neutralized and washed off. To help soothe the skin, ointment is applied, which also prevents pain and dryness. This ointment should remain for the next several hours.
While a deep peel may require up to two weeks of recovery time, it promotes the most dramatic results in the skin. Find out more about our Chemical Peels today
