Hair loss is something that the vast majority of adults will have to deal with - some much sooner than others. Noticing that the ponytail is a bit thinner or that the hairline has begun to recede is never welcomed at any age. Fortunately, medical science has provided solutions to what was once considered an unstoppable force of nature.

What is Mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy was developed in France by Dr. Michel Pistor for the treatment of pain and vascular disorders. The word refers to the technique by which drugs or other nutrients are delivered to a targeted area, rather than to any particular drug or nutrient being delivered.

The principle of injecting a mixture of customized compounds into the mesoderm (or middle layer of the skin) has been expanded over the years to successfully treat other conditions such as hair loss. Success of the treatment is a result of sending the right nutrients in the right amount to a specific area – in this case the follicles that support hair growth. Mesotherapy is tailor-made for the treatment of hair loss in that most hair loss is caused by conditions existing in the mesoderm, or middle layer of the skin.

What causes hair loss?

Hair loss is usually the result of a combination of three factors:

  • Hormone imbalances around the hair follicle caused by an excess of a hormone called DHT or dihydrotestosterone
  • Reduced blood circulation
  • Decreased nutrients to the hair follicle

Am I a candidate for Mesotherapy for hair?

Most hair loss is based on overproduction of certain hormones combined with a lack of nutrients. Come in for a hair loss consultation with one of our specialists to determine what course of action would best suit your needs. It is very likely that Mesotherapy can help you, as it has helped many thousands of others regain that youthful head of hair.

Mesotherapy – a customized approach to hair loss

To combat hair loss, it is necessary to get nutrients to the hair follicle while neutralizing DHT and reducing inflammation. Mesotherapy does this by administering the necessary nutrients and anti-inflammatory drugs through shallow injections, approximately 1 mm in depth, into the scalp.

The material injected stimulates the middle layer of the skin, feeds the hair follicles with a customized solution specific to the needs of the patient. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which are two of the main building blocks of the skin. Increasing levels of collagen and elastin creates a healthy scalp, which can support healthy follicles.

What material is used in Mesotherapy?

Every patient is different, and requires differing ratios of nutrients and pharmacological compounds. In general, the solution contains minerals, vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, and anti-inflammatory compounds, as well as compounds to neutralize DHT.

It is much more effective than Minoxidil (Rogaine) with 90 – 92% of patients achieving a good result as opposed to a 50% success rate with Minoxidil. Mesotherapy stimulates new growth while stopping current hair loss, which means patients will notice an improvement within a few months.

When will I see results with Mesotherapy?

Most patients require a minimum of 10 sessions to trigger increased hair growth. To jump start the process, it is recommended that patients schedule 2 treatments per week spaced about 2 weeks apart. Results will be evident between 2 and 3 months. After hair growth has been established, only maintenance treatments about every 3 months are needed thereafter.

Treatments can easily be done over a lunch break. Depending on the size of the area being treated, each treatment should take about 20 minutes. After treatment, patients can return to their normal activities.

Mesotherapy is used extensively in Europe, South America and the United States. The treatment is virtually painless and completely safe when done in a professional clinic. There is no need for anesthesia and there are no dressings required.

New protocols for office visits View Update

New protocols for office visits

May 12th, 2020

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic we have instituted many changes to your normal office visit. These changes have been introduced to protect everyone’s health and safety during your visit. All of our staff have been tested for COVID-19 and are negative. They are being monitored daily as well and will be practicing safety guidelines.

  1. If you are sick, do not come to the office. Call our front desk and we will reschedule your appointment promptly once you’re healthy again.
  2. Please wear a mask to your appointment.
  3. Do not bring someone else with you to your appointment. They will not be able to enter the office and wait for you. The only exceptions are for those who require medical assistance or translation assistance. Additionally, please do not bring any pets to the office with you.
  4. The day before your appointment, as in the past, you will be called to confirm your appointment. During that call you will be asked if you have any symptoms like fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste. You will also be asked if you have been recently exposed to COVID-19 or have been traveling on a commercial airplane within the last 2 weeks.
  5. When you arrive for your appointment, please call the office from your car. A staff member will either tell you to come up to the office at that time or will ask you to wait in your car until they text you to come up. Before entering the front door of the office, you will be met by a staff member who will take your temperature with a no-touch forehead thermometer to be sure you don’t have a fever. They will again ask you if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. You will be given a mask if you don’t have one, as well as hand sanitizer since you touched the doorknob to enter the office. We will stagger appointments so that on the day of your treatment, you will not interact with any other patients.
  6. You will be taken directly to an exam room which has been cleaned and disinfected just prior to your arrival. There are also air filtration machines installed in each exam room which sterilize the air.
  7. Our medical assistants, who will be wearing N95 masks and protective eye shields, will take your history and prepare you for your visit. You will be asked to sign a new COVID-19 consent form in addition to any of the usual consent forms you may be used to.
  8. After your treatment, you will check out while in the exam room and any products you purchase will be brought to you. If you give us your credit card information the day before your appointment, we can handle the checkout without physically touching your card.
  9. Please try to make your follow up appointments during your office visit. With new scheduling changes and staggered appointments, last minute appointments may be difficult to schedule.
