Age brings forth wisdom and wrinkles, but it also depletes the youthful fullness of the face and lips. As we age, the hyaluronic acid that attracts moisture beneath the skin begins to breakdown, causing the facial skin to sag and create a hollowing appearance. For the lips, the lines that form around the mouth create a puckering effect that makes the lips appear thinner.
To achieve fuller lips, you may consider a non-surgical lip augmentation treatment. In our Beverly Hills practice, we prefer the results achieved by Juvederm, made by the makers of Botox, and Restylane Silk, the newest lip enhancement filler on the market. Both of these dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, to restore the lost volume in the face for a more youthful appearance.
Juvederm works well by adding definition to the mouth and other facial features, providing superior results in the delicate tissues of the lips for a smooth, natural-looking appearance. Positive results can be seen immediately and usually last up to six months.
Restylane Silk is one of the latest fillers approved by the FDA to plump lips and fill in wrinkles that form around the mouth, and our Beverly Hills practice is one of only 30 practices nationwide to carry this innovative new injectable. It includes Lidocaine, an anesthetic that prevents pain from the needle and treatment and is available in tiny syringes filled with a gel full of small particles that infiltrate fine lines and wrinkles around lips more uniformly than other products. Using it around the outline of the mouth or directly into the lips provides excellent augmentation with smoother results. Similar to Juvederm, Restylane Silk lip augmentation in our Beverly Hills aesthetics practice will last for up to six months.
Most patients prefer receiving Juvederm and Restylane Silk injections because there is no recovery time involved, unlike with lip implants which require surgery. You can apply your makeup, leave the clinic, and promptly return to normal activity. To avoid bruising, it is best to avoid over-the-counter pain relievers like aspirin or ibuprofen, as these are blood thinners and will cause additional bleeding and bruising. It is common for minor swelling to occur immediately following injections, but this subsides within a few days.
As Juvederm is injected into the mouth area, it may cause a bit of discomfort; however, most professionals apply a topical skin anesthetic or dental block, or opt to use a special Juvederm formulation containing a numbing agent; Restylane Silk contains lidocaine to reduce discomfort.
The cost of lip augmentation varies depending on clinic location and the type of procedure performed. Dermal fillers are usually charged according to how much material is required. Most patients use no more than one of two syringes of Juvederm or Restylane Silk. Since most health insurance does not cover cosmetic treatments, your out-of-pocket expenses will cost approximately $550 per syringe.
Before you undergo lip augmentation, you need to have realistic expectations about the outcome. Our injection specialists will be able to explain which filler will work best for you to achieve the best results.
