Tired of hair thinning and balding? Want to restore a full head of luscious locks without a hair transplant or grafting procedure? You’re in luck! Men and women who are living with hair loss are benefiting from non-surgical alternatives to hair transplant procedures like PRP (platelet rich plasma) and mesotherapy injections that help regrow hair. Could these non-surgical solutions be right for your needs?
A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that usually involves grafting active hair follicles into areas of the scalp that no longer grow hair. The procedure is invasive, time consuming, and expensive.
Hair restoration, on the other hand, covers a range of non-surgical treatments. After a series of treatments, sometimes combined with home products, inactive hair follicles are stimulated to start growing hair again. These treatments are less invasive. Appointments are much shorter, don’t require surgery, and are much less costly than hair transplant procedures.
Both hair transplant procedures and hair restoration treatments are suitable for men and women. At Lasky Aesthetics and Laser Center, we provide non-surgical hair restoration treatments to help both male and female patients regrow their own hair. Let’s explore the two treatments we provide to stimulate hair regrowth: PRP (platelet rich plasma) and mesotherapy.
Unlike the surgical transplantation procedure, hair restoration with PRP involves a nonsurgical procedure that is scar-free. The platelet-rich plasma process begins by withdrawing a small sample of your blood. This is performed in the same way that any blood draw would be performed in a lab. The sample is then spun in a centrifuge, separating the PRP from the rest of the blood.
PRP is a highly concentrated, natural solution containing factors that stimulate healthy cellular growth. When injected into the scalp, PRP stimulates inactive hair follicles, triggering hair growth. There is no downtime associated with PRP hair restoration.
During the first few months following the PRP hair restoration procedure, you can begin to see new growth in the treated areas. The growth begins below the surface of the follicle, so it could take several weeks to recognize new growth. Over the course of a few weeks and months, the existing hair will become thicker and more visible. Unlike hair transplant surgery, multiple non-surgical treatments are often required to see the full benefit. Results will vary, and treatment can be combined with hair growth vitamins, such as our Viviscal supplements, for better results.
Mesotherapy is another exciting addition to the hair loss treatments offered at Lasky Aesthetics in Los Angeles. It is a nonsurgical procedure used to treat hair loss caused by inflammation, reduced nutrients in the hair follicle and DHT, which is produced by an excess amount of testosterone. The Mesotherapy treatment administers nutrients and anti-inflammatory drugs through shallow injections of a 1 mm depth into the scalp. This also stimulates the production of elastin and collagen and encourages new levels of health in the follicles and scalp.
Mesotherapy hair loss treatment is designed to meet unique needs, and your personalized injected compound will be made with nutrients and pharmaceutical ingredients based on the results found from your scalp, follicle and health analysis. This is a very effective solution for hair loss. For example, 90 to 92 percent of male and female patients who have utilized the Mesotherapy hair loss treatment have achieved 50 percent higher success rates than Minoxidil (Rogaine). The treatment stops current hair loss while stimulating the production of new hair. A noticeable improvement is experienced within just a few months.
While we all hope we’re good candidates for non-surgical treatments, sometimes a surgical procedure will provide better results. We often recommend surgical procedures only when absolutely necessary and can refer you to a hair transplant specialist in these cases.
Most young patients who have just noticed their hair is thinning aren’t good candidates for a hair transplant. The FUE (follicular unit extraction) technique requires that hair loss be significant prior to the procedure. For this reason, older patients or patients with significant hair loss are good candidates for FUE. There are some heavy downsides to the procedure, however. One is the preparation for surgery. Prior to a FUE hair transplant, you’re required to shave your head; this gives the surgeon better access to the donor area. Most female patients are not comfortable with this requirement.
Hair transplant procedures are surgeries. They require downtime and carry risk of side-effects. While hair transplant surgeries often provide excellent results, recovery can be painful and costly. Patients will often miss work during the healing process. While waiting for hair to regrow, patients often feel like they must hide away or cover up. The surgery itself is also very expensive.
Both surgical hair transplant procedures and non-surgical hair restoration treatments provide excellent results. Hair regrowth looks natural once the process is completed. The difference between surgical and non-surgical is the procedure itself, the downtime associated with it, and how you look during your recovery process. Depending on your lifestyle and the extent of your hair loss, a hair transplant may make more sense for you. However, you don’t have to have surgery to see amazing results. In fact, you can discreetly regrow your hair without any downtime and for a much lower financial investment with non-surgical hair restoration treatments available at the Lasky Aesthetics and Laser Center in Los Angeles.
