How to Fix Sagging Jowls Without Surgery

Do microcurrent facelifts work?Sagging jowls. They may look cute on bulldogs, but we don’t much appreciate them on our own faces. They are, however, an inevitability that comes with age.

As facial skin begins to lose its natural collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep your skin smooth and firm, the skin begins to lose youthful volume and fullness, excess skin is often left behind to droop and sag. While there's no stopping the aging process, there are practical ways to stop those jowls from sagging that don’t include invasive facial plastic surgery.

How to Fix Sagging Jowls without Surgery

At one time, facial plastic surgery was the only option available to those who wanted to tackle the problem of sagging jowls. While there's nothing wrong with utilizing a surgical procedure to improve your appearance, the surgical method requires a period of recovery and downtime that just isn't an option for many patients. There are now simpler, non-surgical methods we offer in our Beverly Hills medical spa that have been developed specifically to eliminate the problem of sagging jowls. These include injectables like Botox and Dysport, non-surgical skin tightening treatments like Ultherapy, and facial fillers like Juvederm Voluma and Sculptra.

Can Botox Help Sagging Jowls?

Botox injections have long been used successfully to treat cosmetic concerns that include crow's feet, frown lines that often develop between the eyebrows and horizontal wrinkles that are most often found on the forehead. In some cases, this popular product may also help reduce the appearance of sagging jowls. When injected into specific areas along the jawline, it works by restricting the muscles that are pulling the jowls downward to leave you with a more lifted and contoured look.

Ultherapy for Sagging Jowls

Ultherapy has been approved by the FDA as a non-invasive procedure that serves to lift your eyebrows, chin and neck. Ultherapy utilizes ultrasound energy for a completely safe and more natural way of lifting and tightening your skin to eliminate loose, sagging skin, making it an ideal treatment to manage sagging jowls.

Other non-surgical skin tightening treatments are also available to help correct loose skin that contribute to sagging jowls, including Thermage, VoluDerm, and Tripollar skin tightening systems.

Voluma for Sagging Skin

A product of the trusted Juvederm family, Juvederm Voluma is the very first injectable gel that the FDA has approved for the purpose of adding instant volume to your cheek area. This procedure corrects the loss of volume and adds both contour and lift, providing the added benefit of a non-surgical lower face lift. The quick results make it a popular choice, and the effects of this treatment last up to two full years.

Other dermal fillers that provide similar results include Restylane Lyft, which is also fast acting, and Sculptra, which takes longer to see results but provides longer lasting facial anti-aging.

Am I a Good Candidate for Non-Surgical Treatments?

Not everyone is a good candidate for non-surgical treatments to correct their sagging jowls and other facial aging concerns. Some patients will get better results with facial plastic surgery. In these cases, we would refer you to one of our colleagues at the Lasky Clinic for a consultation. We recommend that you come and see us for a non-surgical consultation, and we can work together to determine if this is the right approach for you.

New protocols for office visits View Update

New protocols for office visits

May 12th, 2020

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic we have instituted many changes to your normal office visit. These changes have been introduced to protect everyone’s health and safety during your visit. All of our staff have been tested for COVID-19 and are negative. They are being monitored daily as well and will be practicing safety guidelines.

  1. If you are sick, do not come to the office. Call our front desk and we will reschedule your appointment promptly once you’re healthy again.
  2. Please wear a mask to your appointment.
  3. Do not bring someone else with you to your appointment. They will not be able to enter the office and wait for you. The only exceptions are for those who require medical assistance or translation assistance. Additionally, please do not bring any pets to the office with you.
  4. The day before your appointment, as in the past, you will be called to confirm your appointment. During that call you will be asked if you have any symptoms like fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste. You will also be asked if you have been recently exposed to COVID-19 or have been traveling on a commercial airplane within the last 2 weeks.
  5. When you arrive for your appointment, please call the office from your car. A staff member will either tell you to come up to the office at that time or will ask you to wait in your car until they text you to come up. Before entering the front door of the office, you will be met by a staff member who will take your temperature with a no-touch forehead thermometer to be sure you don’t have a fever. They will again ask you if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. You will be given a mask if you don’t have one, as well as hand sanitizer since you touched the doorknob to enter the office. We will stagger appointments so that on the day of your treatment, you will not interact with any other patients.
  6. You will be taken directly to an exam room which has been cleaned and disinfected just prior to your arrival. There are also air filtration machines installed in each exam room which sterilize the air.
  7. Our medical assistants, who will be wearing N95 masks and protective eye shields, will take your history and prepare you for your visit. You will be asked to sign a new COVID-19 consent form in addition to any of the usual consent forms you may be used to.
  8. After your treatment, you will check out while in the exam room and any products you purchase will be brought to you. If you give us your credit card information the day before your appointment, we can handle the checkout without physically touching your card.
  9. Please try to make your follow up appointments during your office visit. With new scheduling changes and staggered appointments, last minute appointments may be difficult to schedule.
