Your Lip Filler Consultation

Consultations at Lasky Aesthetics and Laser Center is unique. After meeting with our practice manager, your injector will come in to speak with you about your lip enhancement goals. We will go over your medical history, current prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, herbs and supplements you’re taking, and other important health facts. This is to ensure that you can safely receive lip injections.

After examining your lips, discussing your goals, and confirming you’re a good candidate for treatment, we will schedule your lip filler treatment with your aesthetic injector at a later date. We will also give you instructions for how to prepare for your appointment to ensure the best results.

Your Lip Injections Treatment

After confirming that you followed your pre-care instructions, our first step will be to ensure you’re comfortable. Lip injections contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic. However, some patients benefit from topical numbing and/or ice prior to the first injection. Discuss your options with your provider during your consultation.

Lip injections are administered using a very fine needle. Your provider will strategically place the filler into your lips. After each injection, she will also gently shape the filler into the right areas of your lips. She may also apply ice in between injections to reduce swelling and ensure your comfort.

Lip Enhancement Results: What to Expect

After your lip injections procedure, you will see some immediate results. After a few days, the swelling will subside, and the full results will be apparent. Results last several months, but this varies from patient-to-patient. Discuss realistic expectations with your provider during your consultation and treatment.

The Importance of Follow-up Appointments

After your lip injections treatment, you will schedule a follow-up appointment. This is to check on your full results once the swelling has subsided. Your provider will examine your lips and discuss any concerns you may have about your enhancement. If necessary, a little bit of lip filler may be placed to finish your look.

To maintain your results, it’s important to schedule and keep appointments for touch-up lip injections.

Types of Lip Filler Treatments

There are several different reasons for lip injections. All determine placement of the filler and the type of filler recommended. Different reasons for lip injections include:

  1. Thin/Thinning Lips: If your lips have always been thinner than you wanted, or if your lips are thinning as you get older
  2. Vertical Lip Lines: These occur on and around the lips, causing the lips to appear thinner and older.
  3. Lip Asymmetry: If one lip is thinner than the other, or if one side of your mouth isn’t the same shape or fullness
  4. Lip Shape: If you always wanted a more prominent cupid’s bow or just want more noticeable lip borders, for example

Your lip injections can satisfy one or all of the above. Discuss your options with your injection specialist during your consultation in our Beverly Hills medical spa.

Popular Lip Injections: Restylane and Juvederm Fillers

The lip injections we use here at Lasky Aesthetics in Beverly Hills come from two popular FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler lines: Restylane and Juvederm. Which lip filler is right for you? That depends on your needs and which lip injections will best provide you with your desired results.

Juvederm Lip Injections

Allergan, the makers of BOTOX, manufacture the Juvederm family of dermal fillers. All Juvederm fillers are FDA-approved, and many are suitable as lip fillers, depending on your needs. At Lasky Aesthetics, we provide Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Volbella lip fillers. Both are suitable as lip fillers as well as treating the nasolabial folds and marionette lines that surround the nose and mouth. Volbella is thinner and smoother than Juvederm Ultra, which often makes it the better choice for vertical lip lines, as it reduces the overfilled look that some other fillers created.

Restylane Lip Injections

Restylane-L is the original Restylane filler, developed by Galderma, one of the most trusted names in dermatology. Restylane is suitable in the lips; however, Restylane Silk was developed specifically for lip enhancement. Restylane Silk was the first dermal filler designed specifically for lip injections. Its smoother formula makes it perfect for vertical lip lines, like with Juvederm Volbella.

Lip Injections: Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions about lip injections? Most people do. We can address most of these during your personalized consultation, but we’ve also assembled the most common questions about lip injections below.

Will lip injections look good on me?

With the right technique and lip filler, lip enhancement can look good on most patients. However, not everyone is a good candidate. Discuss your options with our providers to find out if lip injections are right for you.

How long do lip injections last?

Each hyaluronic acid lip filler has its own longevity as determined during clinical trials, although longevity also varies from patient-to-patient. On average, lip fillers last 4-6 months, but it also depends on the brand and type of filler; for example, Restylane lasts 3-4 months, while Restylane Silk lasts up to 6 months.

Your provider will be able to tell you how long you should expect your lip filler results to last based on the filler you use, but the filler chosen isn’t dependent on how long the results last. Rather, we choose the right lip filler to achieve the visual results you want.

Some patients also metabolize fillers a little faster. If this is the case, discuss your options with our providers.

Do lip injections hurt?

The majority of lip filler patients describe the procedure as very comfortable. Most only feel a little pinch. Each syringe of lip filler contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic. After the first injection using a fine gauge needle, the lidocaine gets to work to numb the area. Some patients also benefit from a little topical numbing and/or ice prior to the first injection.

How much do lip injections cost?

Prices vary based on patient needs. However, most patients usually need only 1-2 syringes. Prices change, so we recommend that you call us for our current pricing on lip injections and other treatments you may be interested in.

Are lip injections reversible?

If you don’t like your results, or if you come to us after having a botched lip treatment at another practice, we can help. Hyaluronic acid is reversible using another injectable product called Hyalurondase. Call our practice if you want to schedule an appointment to dissolve your lip filler or other hyaluronic acid filler treatments.

Do lip injections feel hard?

Lip injections should never feel hard. The goal is to create soft, natural-looking lips that also feel natural. If your lips feel hard, call our practice for assistance.

Do lip injections cause cold sores?

The injections do not cause cold sores; however, if you have the herpes virus that causes cold sores on the lips, lip injections can trigger an outbreak. We recommend getting an oral antiviral prescription to take before and after your lip filler treatment to prevent an outbreak. Discuss your options with your provider during your lip filler consultation.

Are lip filler treatments safe during pregnancy/breastfeeding?

Lip injections have not been tested for safety during pregnancy or breastfeeding; therefore, it is not known if lip filler treatments are safe during pregnancy and while you’re nursing. For this reason, we do not recommend injectable treatments while you are pregnant or nursing your baby. You can, however, come and see us about safe skin care treatments and products you can use. You deserve to look and feel beautiful during these amazing life experiences.

Can I buy my lip injections online and bring them to my appointment so I can save money?

No. While the internet has allowed us all to find amazing deals on otherwise expensive products, it has also opened the door to illegal buying and selling of controlled substances. Dermal fillers are prescription medications and can only be purchased legally from the manufacturers by licensed medical providers. We are legally and ethically prohibited from injecting fillers that we did not purchase from the manufacturers ourselves. This is for your own health and safety. If you are able to purchase dermal fillers online, it is very likely the product is counterfeit or expired. It’s not worth the potential savings. Buyer Beware!

What are the possible side-effects from lip filler treatments?

Most patients experience some mild bleeding, bruising, and swelling following a lip treatment. These effects are normal and subside within a few days. More serious side-effects are rare, such as allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. These serious side-effects can most often be avoided by seeing an experienced, licensed provider and making sure you give a full medical and health history during your consultation.

Where can I find before and after photos of your lip filler patients?

We have some before and after photos of our own patients in our online gallery; however, we can also provide you with more before and afters in our office during your consultation.

New protocols for office visits View Update

New protocols for office visits

May 12th, 2020

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic we have instituted many changes to your normal office visit. These changes have been introduced to protect everyone’s health and safety during your visit. All of our staff have been tested for COVID-19 and are negative. They are being monitored daily as well and will be practicing safety guidelines.

  1. If you are sick, do not come to the office. Call our front desk and we will reschedule your appointment promptly once you’re healthy again.
  2. Please wear a mask to your appointment.
  3. Do not bring someone else with you to your appointment. They will not be able to enter the office and wait for you. The only exceptions are for those who require medical assistance or translation assistance. Additionally, please do not bring any pets to the office with you.
  4. The day before your appointment, as in the past, you will be called to confirm your appointment. During that call you will be asked if you have any symptoms like fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of smell or taste. You will also be asked if you have been recently exposed to COVID-19 or have been traveling on a commercial airplane within the last 2 weeks.
  5. When you arrive for your appointment, please call the office from your car. A staff member will either tell you to come up to the office at that time or will ask you to wait in your car until they text you to come up. Before entering the front door of the office, you will be met by a staff member who will take your temperature with a no-touch forehead thermometer to be sure you don’t have a fever. They will again ask you if you have any symptoms of COVID-19. You will be given a mask if you don’t have one, as well as hand sanitizer since you touched the doorknob to enter the office. We will stagger appointments so that on the day of your treatment, you will not interact with any other patients.
  6. You will be taken directly to an exam room which has been cleaned and disinfected just prior to your arrival. There are also air filtration machines installed in each exam room which sterilize the air.
  7. Our medical assistants, who will be wearing N95 masks and protective eye shields, will take your history and prepare you for your visit. You will be asked to sign a new COVID-19 consent form in addition to any of the usual consent forms you may be used to.
  8. After your treatment, you will check out while in the exam room and any products you purchase will be brought to you. If you give us your credit card information the day before your appointment, we can handle the checkout without physically touching your card.
  9. Please try to make your follow up appointments during your office visit. With new scheduling changes and staggered appointments, last minute appointments may be difficult to schedule.
