Non-Surgical Skin Tightening: Ultherapy, Tripollar, Thermage, Venus Freeze

Non-surgical skin tightening treatments provide a completely non-invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery. If you have mild-to-moderate wrinkling or sagging on your face or body, these options are a good choice for you.

Here is a summary of the best available skin tightening treatments. We proudly offer most of them at the Lasky Aesthetics and Laser Center. Included in the descriptions are common skin tightening Q & A along with helpful skin tightening reviews.

Ultherapy before and after

Ultherapy is a newer, non-surgical procedure that utilizes focused ultrasound and the body's own natural regenerative power to lift, tone and tighten skin. It penetrates the deepest layers of skin tissue, stimulating new collagen production. This helps combat the effects of gravity on your eyebrows, chin, neck and décolletage. Ultherapy works from the inside out, so its effects are cumulative. The results continue to unfold gradually for up to six months after the procedure.

Who is a good candidate for an Ultherapy skin tightening treatment?

A good Ultherapy candidate is showing some of the first signs of aging. These include a sagging eyebrow line, loose skin on the eyelids, sagging skin under the chin and neck, or lines and wrinkles on the chest. Ultherapy is the perfect solution to these issues.

The Ultherapy treatment is ideal for people who don't want, or can't have, facial skin tightening surgery. It's also a good choice for those who simply don't require invasive measures, or have already undergone surgery and would like a little “touch-up” to prolong the results.

What's the Ultherapy procedure like?

Gel is applied to the area being treated, and the smooth ultrasound wand is placed on your skin. An image of your deep skin tissues is projected on a screen to serve as your practitioner's guide. The ultrasound device emits tiny bursts of heat. This stimulates the supporting deep layer of the skin to produce collagen without disturbing the surface layer of skin. The procedure takes between 30-90 minutes to administer depending on the areas being treated. There is no downtime after Ultherapy.

Is it painful?

This varies from patient to patient, but most report a minimal amount of pain from Ultherapy. Any discomfort occurs during the ultrasound itself and can be quickly rectified by your practitioner. If you have any concerns about pain relief, discuss this issue with your practitioner during your pre-procedure consultation. Your peace of mind and comfort is important to us and crucial to a positive outcome.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience slight redness, tingling, swelling or tenderness for about an hour post-procedure. These symptoms, if they occur at all, are mild and resolve quickly.

How long does Ultherapy last?

Initial results are noticeable in as little as two weeks after treatment. The improvements are natural-looking and happen gradually over a period of several months. The results can last as long as a year depending on your collagen production and aging process. Further maintenance treatments can help keep pace with the aging of your skin.

Ultherapy Reviews

Most patients who have had Ultherapy are very happy with the results. They report looking younger and more rejuvenated even many months later. The gradual effects of the treatment get a big thumbs up as it's not obvious that you've had “work” done.

Tripollar before and after

Tripollar skin tightening treatment utilizes a radio frequency device to firm and tighten loose skin, decrease the appearance of cellulite, and improve the contours of your body. Tripollar radio frequency works by increasing the temperature in the deepest layer of your skin. This localized heat encourages the production of collagen, strengthening and tightening saggy skin.

Who is a good candidate for Tripollar?

If you have isolated fat pockets in your tummy, thighs, upper arms, buttocks or waist, Tripollar RF could be the perfect option for you. If your BMI is less than 30, you may want to consider this treatment. It is appropriate for patients with all skin types. Those who have pacemakers are not eligible for this procedure.

What's the Tripollar procedure like?

Tripollar treatment is a pleasant and relaxing experience. It's comparable to a warm massage. Once glycerine is applied to your skin, your practitioner will massage the area with a three-pronged instrument for 30 minutes. This Tripollar device targets the exact tissue needing correction – while providing a lovely sensation in the process. The procedure lasts about 30-45 minutes. There is no downtime after the treatment – you may return to your normal activities immediately.

Is it painful?

No. Some patients report falling asleep during their treatment.

Are there any side effects?

There are virtually no side effects to Tripollar. The treated area may appear pink and feel warm to the touch for several hours after your procedure.

How long does Tripollar last?

Tripollar is most effective when administered in six weekly sessions followed by treatments four times a year for maintenance and further enhancement. Since the aging process doesn't have a pause button, it's important to be proactive and not only maintain, but improve upon, the results you've already achieved.

Tripollar Reviews

Patient feedback for the Tripollar treatment is overwhelmingly positive. Whether a person has undergone the procedure for body or facial skin tightening, most all are satisfied with the immediate and long-term results. Many wish they had done it sooner and would recommend Tripollar to a friend.

Thermage before and after

Thermage is a radiofrequency procedure that produces heat to warm the deepest layers of your skin. This action remodels collagen, the protein that gives the skin its youthful appearance but is gradually lost to time, pollution and sun exposure.

The treatment provides renewed firmness and smoothness to the skin resulting in better definition of your eyes, jaw, and neck. Thermage is also used for abdominal skin tightening and toning unwanted bulges on other areas of the body. This procedure makes it possible to directly target problem areas, so the treatment is focused and very effective.

Who is a good candidate for a Thermage treatment?

Those who want to correct fine lines and hooding around the eyes, improve the appearance of “turkey neck” and sagging jowls, or smooth the skin on their body are perfect for Thermage. A woman who has recently given birth and would like non surgical skin tightening for the tummy is a great example of an appropriate candidate for the procedure.

If you don't want to have cosmetic surgery, or if it's not an option for you, Thermage is an excellent alternative. Some patients prefer gradual improvement over drastic change, and Thermage would be a good choice for these people as well.

What's the Thermage procedure like?

The newest Thermage CPT (Comfort Pulse Technology) provides added comfort by utilizing a gentle pulsating sensation coupled with intermittent cooling bursts. This balance of heat and cooling enhances collagen production while also protecting the outer layer of your skin from damage.

Using a handpiece, your practitioner administers the radio frequency treatment in a series of micropulses. You will be asked to provide feedback on your heat tolerance level for the best results with the least discomfort.

Thermage facial skin tightening treatments generally take under an hour, but other parts of the body take longer depending on the size and condition of the area in question. You can return to your normal activities right away, and there's no downtime.

Is it painful?

You may feel the sensation of heat when your practitioner applies the handpiece to your skin, but with the new, advanced Thermage CPT treatment, most patients feel no discomfort at all. Your practitioner will be happy to address any concerns you may have concerning pain relief prior to your Thermage procedure.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects from Thermage are rare and minor. They can include mild redness, swelling and bumps in treated areas that can last for up to a week.

How long does Thermage last?

Many patients notice visual results from their treatment immediately. In most cases, measurable changes occur over the first several months as the collagen-building process kicks in full force. The results of a single treatment can last up to one year, but will vary depending on skin condition, the area treated, and your personal aging process.

Thermage Reviews

Patients are very satisfied with Thermage CPT, unlike the prior thermage treatments due to the older handpiece that caused bulk heating issues. Patients report that the procedure delivers on its promise of tighter, smoother, younger looking skin. Venus Freeze

The Venus Freeze treatment combines multi-polar radio frequency and magnetic pulsed fields that tighten the skin and reduce wrinkles and cellulite. It's designed for correcting problem areas on the face, neck, arms, tummy, buttocks and thighs. The treatment also provides circumference reduction on the arms, legs and tummy.

With the use of a hand-held device, Venus Freeze laser skin tightening induces a thermal reaction in the deep skin tissue that stimulates collagen growth. The production of new collagen makes your skin look and feel smoother and firmer. It also aids in the formation of new blood vessels that deliver more nutrients and oxygen to your skin.

Who is a good candidate for a Venus Freeze treatment?

Since this skin tightening laser treatment is completely non-invasive, anyone who wants to look and feel years younger is a good candidate for Venus Freeze. It's a good option for those seeking effective skin tightening laser for thighs, buttocks and tummy, as it not only smoothes but slims. New moms can particularly benefit from this procedure, and surely deserve the pampering!

What's the Venus Freeze procedure like?

First, glycerin gel is applied over the treatment area by your practitioner. The laser device is gently moved over your skin as the radio frequency penetrates deep into your skin tissue. This heat encourages the growth of new collagen, giving your skin a firmer, more youthful appearance. Most treatments take less than an hour, and there is no downtown to worry about.

Is it painful?

No. Most patients find the treatment very relaxing. Many have compared the sensation to a warm massage.

Are there any side effects?

No. Some people experience slight swelling and redness that resolves within an hour after the procedure.

How long does Venus Freeze last?

For the best venus freeze results, 6-8 sessions once a week are recommended for the face. For the body, 8-10 weekly sessions are advised for the best outcome. Once the initial treatments are complete, maintenance sessions four times a year are sufficient to continue remodeling collagen to keep your youthful, radiant look.

Venus Freeze Reviews

Though we don't currently offer Venus Freeze in our practice, it is a popular skin tightening laser procedure that most patients are satisfied with when they follow the recommended treatment schedule. They find the procedure itself enjoyable and are happy with the reduced appearance of wrinkles, sagging, cellulite, and unwanted bulges that result from it.
