The skin is your largest organ and taking care of it is vital to aging gracefully. There are a variety of skin treatments available, and non-surgical options are on the rise. Now you can improve the look of your skin with a revolutionary light-sensitive treatment. Allumera is a relatively new and advanced non-surgical treatment for sun damage, enlarged pores, fine lines, and uneven texture. This unique treatment can give you an overall glow after as little as one treatment.

Ideal Candidates for Allumera

Allumera is safe and effective on men and women of almost any skin type, even darker skin tones that cannot undergo a chemical peel. Those considering Allumera typically want a deep treatment for their skin but do not want to undergo laser therapy or a surgical procedure. Allumera can help address:

  • Uneven skin tone or texture
  • Sun damage spots that can be scaly or rough
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dry skin
  • Poor elasticity

The procedure requires sun avoidance for the first few days after a treatment. You may not be a good candidate if you cannot avoid being in the sun for long periods of time.

Allumera Procedure Steps

During the treatment, a photodynamic cream is applied to the face. After it is applied, it must absorb into the skin for one hour. The cream is not painful, so patients are encouraged to bring something to do during their appointment. Read, play games, or simply relax while the cream is being absorbed.

After one hour, any excess cream is removed. A specific wavelength of colored light is applied to the treated area. The light penetrates and eliminates damaged cells to improve the overall look and feel of your skin. Patients often need three treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve their best results.

How do photodynamic treatments work?

When you skin cells suffer damage from the sun or other sources, the barrier outside the cell is weakened. Once the photosensitive cream is applied to your skin, it is preferentially absorbed by damaged cells. After being absorbed into the most damaged areas of your skin, the area is exposed to light that is attracted to the photosensitive cream. The light then destroys those cells that have absorbed the cream, leaving behind only your most healthy skin cells.

The Allumera photosensitive skin treatment can be used to improve the skin on your face, back, arms, chest, and more.

Recovery After Allumera

You will likely experience little to no interruption to your daily activities after Allumera. You will need to wear sunscreen or other skin protection and avoid prolonged sun exposure for at least 48 hours after your treatment.

Other side effects are mild. Your skin may be slightly pink after the treatment but will resolve quickly. You are also free to wear makeup and continue your skincare routine after the procedure, making sure to wear sunscreen for at least the first few days.

Expected Results

Allumera successfully targets your most damaged cells, so you will see a vast improvement in your skin’s overall texture and hydration. You’ll likely experience more even complexion as sun damage is resolved. You may also have an overall reduction in the size of your pores.

You will likely notice an improvement after just one treatment, but many patients will have up to three treatments to achieve optimal results. Your skin will continue to improve over the next few weeks following your procedure.

Because Allumera actually treats damaged cells instead of simply covering them up, the results are expected to last for many months. You may decide to have a maintenance treatment after approximately six months.

Benefits of Allumera

Allumera is a non-surgical treatment that targets damaged skin and penetrates deeper than many other treatments available today. The unique procedure does not require a long recovery time and can be used to give you a vibrant, youthful glow.

Photodynamic therapies can help you reduce precancerous skin cells and sun damage. The light-sensitive particles actually help to break down damaged cells and reduce areas of hyperpigmentation, also known as sun spots, which can develop into dangerous precancerous cells later on.

Why choose Allumera over other treatments?

Some treatments simply target the superficial layers of skin. Allumera can penetrate and treat deeper layers of skin while still boasting a short recovery period. It can also reduce unattractive precancerous areas. The procedure is not painful, and you’ll have little to no recovery time. The results will last longer than most lasers or chemical peels.
